Applications Now Open for Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program in Chatham County

Chatham County, Georgia - The Economic Opportunity Authority (E.O.A.) for Savannah-Chatham County Area has announced that applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are now open for low-income residents living in Chatham County.

This program, administered by the Georgia Department of Human Services, aims to provide financial assistance to help eligible households meet their energy bills.

The E.O.A. has made changes to the program requirements this year. To be eligible for assistance, applicants must have a credit of below $1,000. This financial aid can provide either $500 or $400 towards the energy bill, and for those with natural gas, it can offer $660 or $560 assistance on their gas bills.

Arthur Best, the Director of the Energy Assistance Program, explained, "We have different amounts that we can give them (applicants) based on their income."

To qualify for the program, applicants must meet the poverty income guidelines and be residents of Chatham County. They will need to provide certain documents during the application process, including a social security card, a picture ID, and proof of income for the last 30 days for each adult member of the household.

The applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

To make an appointment, interested individuals should call 912-721-7910 starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday. It's important to note that no appointments can be made through the program's website, so those interested should make the call during the given hours.

LIHEAP plays a vital role in assisting low-income individuals and families in Chatham County by alleviating the financial burden of their energy bills. With the rising costs of utilities, many families struggle to keep up, and this program offers a lifeline to those in need.

The assistance provided by LIHEAP not only ensures that residents stay warm during the winter months but also helps prevent energy-related emergencies. By receiving financial support, families can prioritize their basic needs while minimizing the risk of utility disconnections.

If you or someone you know is in need of financial assistance to meet energy bills, please make sure to contact the E.O.A. at 912-721-7910 during the specified hours on Sunday. Remember, appointments are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
