How Local Organizations Provide Relief for Those in Need

The economic effects of the pandemic have hit many families hard, making it difficult to afford basic necessities like food, housing, and utilities.

Thankfully, a number of local organizations in our community are stepping up to provide relief to those struggling to make ends meet.

One group making a huge impact is the Albert Haller Foundation. This nonprofit provides grants to organizations across Clallam County that help meet basic needs.

Just this year, they awarded over $300,000 to more than 50 groups. Some of the programs receiving funding include:
  • food banks
  • shelters
  • utility assistance programs
  • organizations that help with rent and mortgage payments
The assistance from the Haller Foundation has been invaluable for organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, which received nearly $5,000 to provide meals for kids in their after-school programs. For families already stretched thin, these free healthy meals provide welcome relief and ensure kids don't go hungry.

Other nonprofits are also pitching in to help.

The Community Action Program of East Central Oregon (CAPECO) offers emergency rental assistance for low-income families. They help cover past-due rent and utility bills to prevent eviction.

The Clallam County Housing Authority also provides support through its Housing Stabilization Program, which assists with rent, security deposits, and utilities.

With so many in the community still recovering financially from the pandemic, support services like these continue to be a lifeline. The assistance helps relieve the stress of choosing between basic needs like food, rent, and utilities.

Local organizations are working hard to ensure no one falls through the cracks.

There are always opportunities to get involved and help out.
  • Food banks need volunteers to sort donations and assemble food boxes.
  • Utility assistance programs need help processing applications.
  • Shelters need items like toiletries, clothing, and school supplies for families staying there.
Every little bit helps provide relief to those who need it most. Even just spreading the word about available support goes a long way.

If you know someone struggling, encourage them to reach out to organizations like the Haller Foundation and CAPECO. Help connect them with the resources they desperately need.

It takes a community coming together to lift up those who are suffering. But when we join hands, we have the power to make a real difference.
